Bangladeshi Migration in South 24 Parganas District of West Bengal
In India, West Bengal has experienced incessant flow of Muslim migration from Bangladesh throughout the 20th century. Based on the doctoral research of the author, this book focuses on different dimensions of immigration (particularly irregular) and immigrants adjustment process in West Bengal- a border state of India, with special reference to South 24 Parganas. The prime highlights of this book are as follows: Study of the historical characteristics of ethnic issues related to the Bangladeshi migration into West Bengal. Demographic and socio-cultural consequences of Bangladeshi migration in the South 24 Paraganas district of West Bengal. Critical evaluation of different Central and State laws related to detection, disenfranchisement and deportation of illegal migrants. Study of the characteristics, causes and activities of Bangladeshi immigrants in their major settlements of South 24 Paraganas district of West Bengal. Study of different adjustment processes of legal and illegal migration at different levels (individual, communal and societal levels) and their major determinants in West Bengal in general and South 24 Paraganas in particular.
