It is found from southern Arizona through New Mexico to Texas. There is a white costal band on the forewing, extending half way from the cell to the costa, it is bordered anteriorly with light orange. The hingwings are dark brown in males and light brown in females.The Pyralidae or snout moths are a family of Lepidoptera in the ditrysian superfamily Pyraloidea. In many (particularly older) classifications, the grass moths (Crambidae) are included in the Pyralidae as a subfamily, making the combined group one of the largest families in the Lepidoptera.
